Behind the build: How BioTechUSA rebuilt its loyalty program with Omnivy and Talon.One

This chapter takes a deep dive into the BioTechUSA implementation, focusing on how Omnivy’s Accelerator integrates with Talon.One’s Loyalty Engine to power a scalable, real-time loyalty stack.

As one of Europe's fastest-growing sports nutrition and dietary supplement brands, BioTechUSA operates across ecommerce, retail stores, and partnerships with major sports clubs, such as FC Barcelona. With more than 2,000 products sold across 100+ markets, it serves millions of customers worldwide, and its loyalty strategy plays a central role in driving repeat purchases and long-term customer value.

How BioTechUSA members earn points

Before turning to Talon.One, BioTechUSA was held back by the limitations of its legacy loyalty platform, which lacked support for personalized mechanics and flexible campaign logic. The system restricted innovation and made it difficult to adapt to evolving customer expectations.

  • A disconnected martech stack: Customer segments and loyalty data ran on separate tracks, so loyalty behavior couldn't inform communications, and segmentation couldn't shape promotions. Cross-channel consistency between POS and ecommerce ran through middleware, adding manual reconciliation and operational drag that ate into the team's capacity for strategic work.

  • Functional gaps blocking scale: The existing systems were missing the building blocks the program needed to grow: referral modules, advanced tier structures, and Customer Lifetime Value (CLV) calculations.

  • IT capacity constraints: The internal IT team was working through a significant backlog with no room to take on a complex integration.

To address these bottlenecks, BioTechUSA partnered with Omnivy to deploy its Loyalty Accelerator as the central orchestration hub between the brand's core systems. The new architecture removed the integration barriers that had limited personalization and campaign flexibility - creating the foundation for a modern, scalable loyalty ecosystem.

Building on this foundation, BioTechUSA launched a new loyalty program powered by Talon.One - one designed around the customer journey, not just the transaction. As members progress toward their fitness and nutrition goals, the program meets them there: instant rewards for everyday actions, paired with seminars, expert guidance, and personalized content that keeps them coming back for the long run.

The integration process: A detailed overview

Here is a breakdown of how the integration was delivered to solve the technical pain points:

  • Unified integration orchestration

Instead of a series of complex point-to-point connections, Omnivy provided a "SaaS Integration" model that centralized data flow. This included: 

  • Omnivy’s Loyalty Accelerator: The Accelerator served as the middleware handling all integration logic, requiring zero involvement from the internal IT team and bypassing their backlog entirely.

  • Pre-connected ecosystem: The Accelerator provided ready-to-use blueprints to connect Shopify (ecommerce), Klaviyo (marketing automation), Talon.One (loyalty engine), and BioTechUSA’s custom POS simultaneously.

  • Solving functional and personalization gaps

The solution replaced rigid, generic campaigns with a highly flexible, data-driven framework, powering: 

  • Real-time synchronization: Omnivy enabled real-time syncing of customer profiles and transactional data from both Shopify and POS systems into Talon.One.

  • Behavior-based personalization: By streaming interaction data into Talon.One, BioTechUSA could use the Campaign Builder for custom flows, such as in-session promotions and ex-loyalty targeting based on real-time customer actions.

  • Omnichannel loyalty: The integration bridged both online (Shopify) and offline (POS), allowing customers to earn and redeem points consistently across all 328+ brick-and-mortar stores and the ecommerce platform. 

  • Rapid delivery and performance

To meet a critical contract deadline, the project was executed with a strong focus on speed and automation.

  • Accelerated timeline: The complete implementation was reduced from the typical 4-6 months to just 6-8 weeks, with the Shopify and Klaviyo connections completed in as little as one day.

  • Seamless communication: The connection with Klaviyo ensured that loyalty events, like reaching a new tier or earning a coupon, were instantly pushed to the marketing platform, enabling automated, lifecycle-based messaging.

Shopify Plus and Talon.One: The "zero-friction" integration deep dive

The integration architecture for BioTechUSA went beyond simple data connectivity. It established a real-time, high-performance tech stack enabling Shopify and Talon.One to deliver personalized offers instantly at the point of interaction. 

Key highlights of the integration include:

1. Real-time data sync (the "live" backbone)

Omnivy ensures that Shopify Plus and Talon.One operates as a single, unified system. Every customer event is propagated in sub-seconds.

  • Customer lifecycle: Syncing goes beyond basic fields. It includes custom Shopify Metafields like loyalty_terms acceptance, birth_date, and shopifyTags.

  • Automated privacy logic: The integration handles Shopify account anonymization and deletions automatically, ensuring GDPR compliance while preserving non-personal loyalty business insights in Talon.One.

  • Product & inventory awareness: The Accelerator continuously syncs the product catalog with Talon.One, allowing for granular rewards (e.g., "10% off on specific Protein Isolate collections").

2. Transactional integrity: Orders & returns

Maintaining a "points balance" that customers trust is notoriously difficult. Omnivy solves this through:

  • Bi-directional order sync: Every order placement creates a corresponding session in Talon.One to trigger earning campaigns.

  • Streamlined returns: When a partial or full refund occurs in Shopify, Omnivy automatically notifies Talon.One to reverse points or rewards, maintaining the financial integrity of the program.

  • Checkout simulations: Before a member pays, Omnivy runs a "dry-run" session in Talon.One to show exactly how many points they will earn. This personalization reflects tier multipliers and specific product rules in real-time.

3. Dynamic coupon & promotion orchestration

The sync of promotion rules is where the "heavy lifting" happens. Instead of manual code imports, the system is automated:

  • On-the-fly coupon creation: When a user redeems points in the Shopify UI, Omnivy triggers a Talon.One effect that instantly creates a matching Discount Coupon in Shopify.

  • Complex rule mapping: Support for cart-wide discounts, product-specific rewards, and free shipping is built-in.

  • Usage constraints: Attributes like minimum order value, usage limits, and tier-availability are synced to ensure a coupon is never used outside its intended logic.

4. Embedded storefront experience (ready-to-use UI blocks)

One of the biggest wins was the elimination of frontend development debt. Omnivy provides pre-built, high-performance UI components that live directly within the Shopify storefront.

  • Loyalty membership block: Displays unique identifiers (QR/Barcodes for POS use), join dates, and referral codes.

  • Loyalty benefits hub: A real-time view of active and pending point balances, plus a direct link to the reward catalog.

  • Dynamic progress bars: Visual indicators of tier status (e.g., Silver to Gold) with personalized prompts like "You’re just €40 away from unlocking VIP status".

5. The "1-day" implementation advantage

Building this type of real-time, cross-platform integration from scratch typically takes 4–6 months with a standard system integrator. In this case, Omnivy's pre-connected ecosystem compressed that timeline dramatically.

  • Speed to market: Omnivy had BioTechUSA's full Shopify + Talon.One + Klaviyo setup live in just 1 day.

  • Zero IT engagement: Because the Accelerator handles the orchestration layer, the BioTechUSA IT team didn't need to spend a single hour on designing or building the core integration.

In BioTechUSA’s tech architecture, Talon.One serves as the "brain" for promotions, and Klaviyo acts as the "voice" and "memory." The Omnivy Accelerator ensures that these two systems communicate with sub-second latency.

How Omnivy Accelerator connects Talon.One, Shopify Plus and Klaviyo

1. Data-driven promotion power (Klaviyo → Talon.One)

Instead of static segments, the integration allows Klaviyo Scores & Metadata to dynamically power promotion logic in Talon.One.

  • RFM-powered logic: Omnivy pushes Klaviyo-calculated RFM (Recency, Frequency, Monetary) scores into Talon.One customer attributes.

  • Implementation: A marketer can set a rule in Talon.One: "If Klaviyo_RFM_Score is 1-3, apply an exclusive 20% 'VIP Rescue' discount." This requires zero developer intervention once the initial attribute mapping is set.

  • Behavioral triggers: Actions tracked in Klaviyo (e.g., "Opened 3 emails in a week" or "Clicked on a specific product category") are sent to Talon.One as custom events, allowing the loyalty engine to reward engagement, not just transactions.

2. On-demand reward generation (Klaviyo flows)

With this integration BioTechUSA doesn’t need "coupon batches" anymore. It now uses Dynamic Coupon Generation directly within Klaviyo automation flows.

  • The flow: When a customer enters a "Happy Birthday" or "Win-back" flow in Klaviyo, the system sends an on-demand request via Omnivy to Talon.One.

  • Technical details: Talon.One generates a unique, single-use code based on the specific campaign logic and sends it back to Klaviyo to be injected into the email/SMS template in real-time. This ensures that every code is trackable and tied to a single IntegrationID.

3. Smarter automation via loyalty events (Talon.One → Klaviyo)

The integration enriches Klaviyo profiles with real-time loyalty "moments," turning the CDP into a high-fidelity record of the customer's loyalty status.

  • Event syncing: Omnivy listens for "effects" in Talon.One and instantly pushes them as events to Klaviyo.

  • Synchronized events include:

    • Points added/deducted/expiring.

    • Tier status upgrade or downgrade (e.g., Silver to Gold).

    • Reward redemption or coupon creation.

  • Marketer impact: This allows for highly personalized automation. For example, if a customer is 50 points away from the next tier, Talon.One identifies the gap, and Klaviyo automatically sends a "You're almost there!" email with a product recommendation that would bridge that gap.

4. Zero-friction personalization at scale

By synchronizing Personalized Offers and Prices from Talon.One back to Shopify via the Omnivy Frontend Blocks, the customer sees the same consistent offer in their inbox (Klaviyo) as they do on the storefront (Shopify).

  • Segment alignment: Segments created in Klaviyo are automatically reflected in Talon.One’s campaign targeting. This prevents the common "broken experience" where a customer receives an email offer but cannot redeem it on the site due to logic desynchronization.
