The strongest loyalty programs spend the same promotional budget as everyone else. They just aim it at precise, tailored promotions that change what a customer does next. Blanket discounts do the opposite: they train shoppers to wait for the next markdown and hand margin to customers who would have bought anyway.
That shift, from broad discounting to targeted relevance, is what now separates a loyalty program that drives revenue from one that simply gives money away.
In this blog post, we'll make the case for treating personalized promotions as a brand's loyalty currency, including:
Where generic discounting breaks down: Without connected systems, your best customers and your discount hunters get the identical deal.
How the closed loop works: Braze and Talon. One turn a customer action into a validated, on-budget offer in real time.
What it delivers at scale: Enterprise teams see measurable margin and retention gains from connected incentives.

Most promotion engines and Customer Engagement Platforms (CEPs) were never built to talk to each other. Customer profiles live in one system, promotional logic in another, and the loyalty program sits off to the side with its own rules and budget.
A gold-tier member receives the same coupon as a brand-new subscriber. An abandoned-cart reminder can't tell a high-value regular apart from a one-time discount hunter, and points earned in an email journey won't redeem in-store. Left unmanaged, that pattern trains customers to wait for the next markdown, a dynamic Talon. One's Creative Currencies research calls the discount death spiral.
When systems can't act on customer data together, discounting defaults to one offer for everyone. Personalized promotions can lift sales by 4% to 8% and improve net income by 2% to 3%. They target incremental behavior instead of subsidizing purchases that would have happened anyway. The personalization a brand buys a CEP to deliver only pays off when it reaches the incentive itself.
Closing that gap takes a connection between the system that decides the moment and the system that decides the offer. Braze is the customer engagement platform that owns the relationship. It decides which channel reaches a customer, what the message says, and when they are ready to engage.
Talon. One is the Promotion Engine that owns the value. It decides which reward a customer is eligible for and issues it as a coupon, point, or discount. First, it checks that the reward is valid, on budget, and safe from fraud. The decisioning layer picks the play, and the Promotion Engine makes it real.
Through a native integration built on Braze Connected Content, the two act inside a single real-time loop:
A customer acts: A purchase, an abandoned cart, a lapse in activity, or a tier change.
Braze detects and triggers: The event starts a Canvas or campaign.
Talon. One decides: The Rule Builder evaluates eligibility, applies stacking rules and budget caps, and returns a validated offer.
Braze delivers: The offer goes out through the communication channel most likely to convert.
The loop closes: Redemption writes back to the loyalty profile, so the next segment and the next offer are smarter than the last.
The integration assembles the offer at send time, from the customer's state in that moment.
That split isn't the same in every context. At checkout or in an active cart session, Talon. One can apply and validate the reward directly, without Braze in the loop at all. Braze's role is specifically the off-site communication channels, such as email, SMS, WhatsApp, and in-app push. That's where a message needs to reach the customer somewhere other than the point of purchase itself.
At enterprise scale, one promotion has to work across millions of customers, dozens of markets, and every channel at once. The integration turns that into repeatable plays:
Loyalty tier upgrades: The moment a customer crosses a threshold, Talon. One issues the new reward and Braze delivers the recognition wherever the member is most active.
Winbacks: A lapse in activity triggers a Braze journey that picks the right re-engagement incentive, which Talon. One then validates and issues before the relationship cools.
Build once, run everywhere: Talon. One defines a single promotion, and Braze delivers it as one coordinated journey across SMS, email, in-app, and push.
At enterprise scale, choosing which offer to run, and for whom, only pays off if every reward it lands on holds up. Talon. One applies the eligibility rules and budget caps that keep each offer sound, even as volume scales across markets and channels.
This integration between Braze and Talon. One was key for MAX Burgers, Sweden's oldest family-owned fast food chain.
The financial logic follows from there. Mass promotion still has a place, so the goal is to move more of the existing budget toward offers that earn their keep. One large convenience chain raised its share of personalized offers from 1% to 10% and generated $250 million in incremental sales. The takeaway is to aim existing spend at the most responsive customers.
According to Harvard Business Review and Talon. One, 60% of organizations plan to increase the integration of their promotions and loyalty efforts. Among those already doing so, 58% report increased sales or revenue. Connecting the offer to the moment is exactly what the Braze and Talon. One integration does.
The brands leading on loyalty connect promotional decisions to individual behavior in real time, across every channel, while keeping enough logic in play to protect margin. That takes an engagement platform and a promotion engine that move at the speed of the customer, free of batch cycles and engineering tickets. Together, Braze and Talon. One turn that ambition into daily execution.
