How Virgo uses cashback offers to drive growth and retention with Talon.One

Virgo is a payment service provider based in Jakarta, Indonesia, that aims to make digital payments more accessible for its users. With the Virgo app, users can make payments to online and offline shops, pay bills, top up their mobile phone balance, and transfer to fellow users without additional fees.

Virgo recently started working with Talon.One to help personalize their promotions and drive growth and retention. We recently spoke with Virgo’s Head of Marketing, Aril Aditian, to learn more about their marketing stack and why they selected Talon.One to power their incentives strategy.

What channels are you leveraging for growth and retention at the moment (eg discount, coupons, referral, loyalty, gamification)?

We reward specific behavior, such as balance top-ups or making payments via the app, with unique coupons generated by Talon.One. These coupons can then be redeemed in later transactions in return for cashback. Cashback earned is then stored in Talon.One loyalty ledgers. We’ve seen a lot of success with this format, and the high redemption rates are proof that our users value the benefits and rewards we offer.

What made you choose to work with Talon.One?

Talon.One offered all the promotional capabilities we needed to meet our company needs and business goals, and gave us plenty of scale to grow too. Knowing that Talon.One supports such a wide range of incentives - from referrals to geofencing - means there’s tons of scope to experiment in the future. We also have a pretty diverse technological ecosystem, so it was important to work with a vendor that easily integrates with the other tools we use - and we now have a headless framework of best-in-class tools. Of course, as a player in the financial industry, we also needed a solution that met our strict privacy and security requirements - and Talon.One’s experience working with fintech brands like Kredivo and Pintu gave us added peace of mind.

The core of our our marketing tech stack consists of:

  • Appsflyer for attribution

  • Netcore for engagement

We also work with additional tools that help us flag suspected fraudulent users. Using rules in Talon.One, we can easily exclude these users from promotions, reducing the risk of fraud and avoiding wasted campaign budget.

How do you balance cost, features, building your own tools & future use cases for your marketing strategy? 

At the end of the day, the decision to implement any tool comes down to its ROI. We always ask ourselves “should we build our own internal tools, or integrate with a third-party provider?”. Building a promotion engine with the sophistication of Talon.One was out of the question, so it was a no-brainer for us to integrate an already existing, best-in-class solution. Plus, Talon.One offers excellent support, which is essential in such a highly regulated industry. From integration to training, the team is always available and able to help with solutions for new campaigns. 

From a technical standpoint, what is your biggest challenge at the moment?

It’s just the beginning of our journey, so we have a ton of additional use cases that we’d like to implement with Talon.One in the coming months. Our next step is to learn and optimize, plus evaluate how we can integrate more tools in order and create more automations between our systems.
